Where to Buy
Short Film About Love
After so many years, Artificial Eye has finally released Kieslowski's A Short Film About Love on DVD in September 2003. Please check the BlackStar site or Amazon.co.uk for details.
An alternative is to buy the Region 1 DVD, to be released by Kino International on 11 May 2004. It is available from Amazon.com.
Another alternative is to get the Region 3 DVD released by A9 Media of South Korea in December 2002, with English and Korean subtitles. You can buy it from DVDAsian.com.
Shu Kei's Creative Workshop distributes this film in VCD format in Hong Kong, in Chinese and English subtitles.
The Decalogue
Facets Video released the All-Region DVD set of The Decalogue in April 2000 (left).
It was replaced by the Region 1 Special Edition Complete Set in August 2003 (right). This set is also on 2 DVDs, but with another DVD of "bonus features".
If you insist, you can also buy the NTSC VHS set.
Amazon.co.uk carries the Artificial Eye Region 2 release in 2 separate sets, one for Parts 1-5, and one for Parts 6-10. The set was released in May 2002.
Shu Kei's Creative Workshop distributes the VCD set of The Decalogue in Hong Kong, in 10 separate VCDs. Only Chinese subtitle is provided.
The Decalogue Soundtrack
Silva Screen has released the original soundtrack of The Decalogue by Zbigniew Preisner. You can buy it through Silva Screen's own website or, say, Amazon.co.uk. This is part of the "Preisner Edition" and has Grazyna Szapolowska (i.e. Magda in "Decalogue VI") on the cover.
Many other online CD shops sell the original version. The two are identical, except in the look. The new version may become more widely available over time, while stock of the old version will run out pretty soon.
mk2 has just released 6 CD sets to celebrate the Preisner-Kieslowski partnership in film music, including The Decalogue (far left) and a compilation set which includes some tracks from The Decalogue (left).
The Decalogue Screenplay
The screenplay of The Decalogue from Faber and Faber (Titled "Decalogue, The Ten Commandments", co-authored by Kieslowski and Piesiewicz, translated by Cavendish and Bluh, first published in 1991) seems to be out of stock in most online bookshops.
Don't expect the screenplay to be very similar to either A Short Film About Love or "Decalogue VI".
A Short Film About Love Posters
Three film posters of A Short Film About Love, all by Andrzej Pagowski. You can buy them from the Polish Poster Gallery. At US$50-90 per piece + shipping, they are definitely not cheap.
